A preliminary study conducted in 1990 suggested a relationship between Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in children and adults. Currently treatments for ADHD consist of medications like methylphenidate (Ritalin) that increase the activity of dopamine and nor epinephrine in the brain. Ritalin has many side effects and has a high potential for abuse. Use of Ritalin is controversial, especially in children. Researchers have conducted several studies at the Neurophsychiatric Institute at the University of California examining adults with ADHD. Preliminary data indicated that 75% showed marked improvement when taking SAM-e.* |
